The highest-grossing films of all time are a mix of action movies, superhero films, animated films, and more. However, the majority have one thing in common: they are only part of a larger franchise.
The biggest grossing films of all time are also a mix of well-discussed and critically-ordered films. The list proves that the audience will sometimes see a movie no matter what the critics say, but great movies can still bring in a lot of money.
We have provided the six highest-grossing films of all time, based on the worldwide box office:
Avatar (2009):
In the lush alien world of Pandora lives the Na’vi, beings that appear primitive but highly developed. Since the planet’s environment is poisonous, human, called avatars must connect to the human mind to allow free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully, a paralyzed former Marine, is mobilized by such an avatar and falls in love with a Na’vi woman (Zoe Saldana). As it grows in connection with her, he is drawn into a fight for the survival of her world. James Cameron’s eco-minded sci-fi film is the director’s second in the top 20 highest grossing films, with $893,301,900.
Titanic (1997):
James Cameron’s “Titanic” is an epic, action-packed romance against the miserable maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic; the pride and joy of the White Star Line and at that time the largest moving object ever built. It was the most luxurious ship of its time – the “Ship of Dreams” – which, in the early hours of April 15, 1912, killed more than 1,500 people in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. James Cameron may have been a bit choppy when he declared himself King of the World when he was awarded the Best Director Award at the 1998 Academy Awards, but he was not too far away. Between Avatar and Titanic, which raised $ 1,244,347,300, Cameron holds the top two places in the world’s highest-grossing films.
The Empire Strikes Back (1980):
The adventure continues in this sequel to Star Wars. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leila and Chewbacca are being attacked by the Imperial forces and their AT hikers on the ice planet Hath. While Han and Leila escape Falcon in the Millennium, Luke travels to Dagobah in search of Yoda. Only with the help of the Jedi Master will Luke survive when the dark side of power invites him to the ultimate duel with Darth Vader. The second film released in the Star Wars franchise is its third highest grossing, with $901,298,200 in adjusted domestic ticket sales.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937):
The Grimm fairy tale receives a Technicolor treatment in Disney’s first animated feature. Jealous of Snow White’s beauty, the evil queen orders the murder of her innocent stepdaughter, but later discovers that Snow White is still alive, hiding in a cottage with seven friendly little miners. As queen, the queen disguises a poisoned apple to Snow White, who falls into a death-like sleep that can only be broken by a kiss from the prince. Rounding out the top 10 is the oldest film on this list; the Walt Disney classic generated $1,000,620,000 at the box office.
Jaws (1975):
When a young woman near the tourist town of Amity Island in New England is killed by a shark, police Chief Martin Brody wants to shut down the beaches, but Mayor Larry Vaughn puts him down for fear of losing the tourist revenue will paralyze the city. The ichthyologist Matt Hooper and the petrified ship’s captain Quaint (Robert Shaw) offer to Brody to punish the murder, and the trio takes part in an epic battle between man and nature. The film, which has made Steven Spielberg a household name, has been able to scare the public off the water, but has taken them to the movies in droves, as evidenced by ticket sales of $ 1,175,763,500.
Star Wars (1977):
Darth Vader – Hold Princess Leila (Carrie Fisher) hostage, in their efforts to quell the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo (Harrison Ford), captain of the Millennium Falcon, working together with the companion droid duo R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) and C-3PO to rescue the beautiful princess, help the Rebel Alliance, and restoring freedom and justice to the Galaxy. The George Lucas Space Opera, which has created a thousand action figures, still dominates the Star Wars universe with a total profit of $ 1,635,137,900.
